Associate Professor

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon in the area of Pediatric Orthopedics with sub-specialization in Neuromuscular disorders and Movement analysis. The University of Colorado SOM is located on a new 2.5-billion-dollar campus that combines state of the art medical facilities and basic science research.

All candidates must have completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics, have an interest in developing a clinical practice and research endeavors, and participate in our resident/fellowship education program. This position is unique in that it carries with it an endowed chair from the Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation. Accordingly, all candidates must be at an academic level of Associate Professor or Professor.

Our clinical practice is based at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, Colorado. Children's Hospital Colorado is a state-of-the-art facility with our new hospital having opened in October of 2007. We are a very busy tertiary referral center with extensive pathology covering the entire spectrum of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery.

Clinical responsibilities include active participation in the continued growth of the Pediatric Orthopedic programs throughout the Children's Hospital Colorado system. The candidate will provide medical services in both the inpatient and outpatient environments.

Teaching responsibilities include participating in the education of Orthopedic residents, fellows, and medical students.

Research Responsibilities include actively pursuing and participating in research activities as well as mentoring residents, fellows, and other faculty in research endeavors.

This position will work with and report to the Co-Chairs of Pediatric Orthopedics and the Director for the Center for Children's Surgery (Children's Hospital Colorado Surgeon In Chief), the Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics, and, as needed, the Department of Orthopedics Director of Finance and Administration.

Made possible by a generous gift from The Helppie Family Charitable Foundation, The Helppie Family Chair in Orthopedic Movement Analysis is an Endowed Chair held by a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon and supports research, clinical, and educational activity in Orthopedics and the Center for Gait and Movement Analysis at CHCO.

Working with one of the preeminent Centers for Gait and Movement Analysis in the country and one of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region, the Helppie Endowed Chair has the opportunity to impact state of the art movement analysis and advance the practice of Pediatric Orthopedics in innovative ways. Research and clinical activity have not only touched children and young adults with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy but also those affected by trauma such as brain or spinal cord injuries. Patients who have suffered loss of a limb due to cancer and need the use of a prosthetic device have also benefited from the Center's work. More recent evolutions have seen entrance into the Sports Medicine side of Pediatric Orthopedics in ways that help prevent injuries as well as rehabilitate from sports injuries.

The Center for Gait and Movement Analysis is located at Children's Hospital Colorado; a US News & World Report top 10 Children's hospital in the country and the Rocky Mountain region's only pediatric academic medical center. Located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, Children's Hospital Colorado, in partnership with the University of Colorado School of Medicine, offers access to state of the art medical and research facilities all on one campus.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Board certified/eligible Orthopedic Surgeon
  • Associate Professor or Professor
  • All candidates must have completed an Orthopedic Surgery fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics
  • Medical License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The applicant must be self-directed, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a high-intensity environment. Basic science and/or clinical research skills are a required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as well.



Preferred Qualifications

5 years or greater experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
