Requisition Title: Assistant / Associate Professor - Academic Hepatologist - 1804877

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Gastroenterology of the University Health Network and Sinai Health System are seeking to recruit an Academic Clinician Investigator for The Toronto Centre for Liver Disease, University Health Network. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2019, or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate must hold MD and FRCPC qualifications or equivalent, be eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in gastroenterology and hepatology and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. In addition, they will have completed an MSc, PhD or equivalent training in clinical gastroenterology and hepatology. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in the field of hepatology and a particular interest in liver tumors. Excellence will be evidenced by research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at significant conferences, awards, accolades and other related accomplishments. S/he will work alongside a vibrant multidisciplinary research and clinical team and will contribute in all aspects to perpetuate the vision to provide excellence in patient care, research and teaching. The successful applicant should also have the vision and organizational skills necessary to further grow the Liver Research Program. S/he will focus on hepatoma -related clinical care and research such that approximately 50% of their time will be allocated to research.

The combined Division of Gastroenterology of the University Health Network and Sinai Health System in Toronto is a group of 28 gastroenterologists and hepatologists. The Division has active clinical and research programs in many areas of gastroenterology and hepatology including inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, pancreatic physiology, motility, viral hepatitis, cholestatic liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, fatty liver, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. The Toronto Centre for Liver Disease is based within the University Health Network at the Toronto General Hospital and is one of the largest Hepatology Units in North America, consisting of 17 full time hepatologists and 2 clinical associates.

Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Minimum compensation will be issued in the range of $250,000 and $350,000 per year (estimate based on fee-for-service billings). Benefits including malpractice insurance (CMPA), central administration expenses and extended health to be paid through practice plan. For the successful candidate compensation will be highly competitive and with the usual income range for an academic hepatologist in the Province of Ontario.
