Risk Management Associate
Job Description Summary:
I. JOB OVERVIEW
Under the Finance Division, Risk Management and Insurance provides the expertise necessary to maintain a safe and healthy campus environment where bodily injury and property damage risk are prevented or controlled and the potential liability from loss is adequately financed. Their work includes identification and analysis of key risk exposures, recommendation of insurance coverage, and managing incident reporting.
Reporting to the Manager Claims, the Risk Management Associate's duties are:
Coordinate compliance with insurance certificate requirements.
Request Certificates of Insurance from insurance brokers and forward to the requesting party.
Maintain database of Certificates of Insurance.
Assist the Department in the preparation of insurance renewal applications and administration of the property and casualty insurance programs.
Catalog insurance information in a consistent and retrievable manner.
Prepare all Payment Requests; disburse and post all payments.
Maintain files and records associated with claims.
Coordinate site visits with property insurance broker.
Maintain Property and Auto Schedules.
Process new bond requests and issue bond renewals.
Perform a variety of office support tasks.
Verification of Physicians:
- Field requests from medical residents and external parties.
- Verify information with the Office of Graduate Medical Education.
- Provide verification to requesting party.
Student: Manage all student property damage claims, onsite response
Coordinate with the Facilities Management on all facilities related property issues that rise to be a claim
Workers Compensation (medical only): Interfaces with third party administrator and outside legal counsel to determine the compensability of work related injury and illness claims under the DC Workers Compensation Law.
Interacts with medical service providers, (e.g. hospitals and other medical facilities) to analyze and investigate discrepancies in medical invoices for workers compensation claims.
Processes Workers Compensation subrogation recoveries from responsible third-party.
Notifies Workers Compensation insurance company of all non-DC related injuries and illness.
Auto: Manage all auto property damage and liability claims.
Produces loss run reports.
Evaluate requests from a risk management perspective and respond to departments as needed. This includes:
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
This position has the potential to travel between multiple locations including the Foggy Bottom and Virginia Science and Technology (VSTC) Campuses.
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in administrative/office support or a related area. Familiarity with office environment, and ability to handle confidential information.
Sufficient computer skills to access information necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees of the University, managers, internal and external customers and vendors.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to work under direction. Able to work well with all areas of the University including management and peers. Able to be a team player who is conscientious, totally reliable, discrete, confidential and honest. Possess a take charge professional approach with a high standard of quality, strong work ethic and be assertive in a positive way.
Experience in the following is also preferred:
Risk management or
Commercial Property/Casualty Insurance or
Claims management (automobile, property/casualty, workers compensation)
