Primary Function of Organization Unit: The College of Natural Resources at NC State University is a world leader in the sustainable use of natural resources. The College's comprehensive approach to teaching, research and service encompasses the many and varied ways in which people's physical, economic and social needs are met through the responsible use of natural resources. The mission of the College of Natural Resources advancement team is to increase private financial support through strategic engagement and advocacy among all constituencies in order to advance the vision and priorities of the College, as defined by the College's strategic plan.

Essential Job Duties: The Development and Donor Relations Manager reports to the College of Natural Resources' Assistant Director of Annual Giving and Prospect Management. This position is instrumental in achieving the College's annual fundraising goals, by proactively engaging alumni and friends through stewardship and event management. This position provides critical support for the Office of Advancement at the College and works closely with the Assistant Director of Annual Giving and Prospect Management to increase and strengthen relationships with all constituencies. The Development and Donor Relations Program Manager manages and coordinates stewardship activities for the College, including gift acknowledgements. Oversee and coordinate annual scholarship acknowledgement process. This position functions as the event planner managing special events throughout the year including alumni, donor stewardship and external relations gatherings both locally and outside. Finally, this position is responsible for the College's coordination of student giving and philanthropic education.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: * Strong interpersonal skills; writing and grammar, verbal communication, friendly disposition * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Solid computing skills; proficiency in MS Word and Excel * Event planning experience to include working with vendors and external/internal audiences * Must be detail oriented, well organized, focused and goal oriented, with a high level of initiative and energy * Adept at problem solving and using judgement in situations requiring independent initiative and tact * Sensitivity to dealing with confidential information and good judgment

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Bachelors degree with three (3) years of experience, related to the area of assignment or an equivalent combination of training and experience * Experience in higher education (or a comparably complex organization or non profit), in development, stewardship, advancement services or related field * Experience in interacting with donors * Knowledge of fundraising principles and stewardship practices * Project management experience with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions to move the program forward * Ability to make decisions on behalf of supervisor and have excellent time management skills * Proven skills and ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion, including the ability to build consensus among team members and balance multiple concurrent priorities * Background/experience with development databases, i.e. Advance, Rasiers Edge, etc.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Travel is required as part of this job. NC Driver's License required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
