Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State College of Education leads the way in preparing professionals, conducting research, and engaging communities to improve educational outcomes for all learners across North Carolina, the nation and the world. With two-thirds of its faculty engaged in over 120 funded research projects, the college ranks No. 1 in education research productivity in North Carolina and in the Top 8 percent nationally among public colleges of education. Essential Job Duties: The successful candidate will be self-motivated, attentive to detail, highly organized, can function independently but also can work effectively on team objectives. Other important characteristics include the ability to carry out responsibilities with limited supervision, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to work under pressure in various circumstances and consistently project a friendly and professional demeanor. The competitive candidate will also have an appreciation and competence for diversity and inclusion encompassing constituents from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and international backgrounds. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the College of Education in addressing the critical shortage of qualified classroom teachers throughout the state of North Carolina. The person in this position will especially support the university's commitment to broaden its efforts to address teachers in high need subject areas and the disproportionately low number of teachers of color entering the teaching profession while identifying, recruiting and enrolling a new academically strong and diverse student class each academic year. Major responsibilities include participating in University undergraduate recruitment activities such as high school visits, college fairs, receptions, campus visitation programs, community events, etc. This includes on-campus internal transfers and working collaboratively with community colleges to recruit a diverse and talented pool of candidates. Counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University with in-person meetings, phone calls and/or emails. Respond to applicants' questions and concerns in person and on the telephone accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely matter. Use excellent communication skills to advise students and families regarding the admissions process. Recruitment activities mostly involve state travel and considerable public speaking. Weekend work will be required occasionally. Work in conjunction with the Undergraduate Admissions office to support recruitment efforts that align with the goals of NC State and the College of Education. This includes office hours two days a week in the Admissions Office, assisting in the processing of materials related to the admissions process for prospective students, and assisting with office operations and administrative duties including but not limited to answering phone calls, greeting campus visitors, responding to email inquiries, application processing and assisting with other special projects. Coordinate and implement recruitment events. Initiates creative programming to engage student participation. Conduct information sessions on campus for prospective students and their parents. Coordinate the college's efforts and participation with University Open House and Experience NC State. Creates and facilitates learning opportunities for students, parents and counselors. Contribute to the success of various student visit programs that are designed to recruit targeted prospective applicants. Manage and maintain clear and excellent communication skills for extensive contact with the public by phone, e-mail, and in person. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with prospective applicants, their parents and counselors in order to identify, recruit and enroll a new student class each year. Complete routine reports related to recruitment, enrollment, travel and expenses. Maintain up to date records on inquires and applicants. Network with colleagues in other University departments and organizations and collaborating with them for effective recruitment and yield activities.
Minimum Education/Experience: - Bachelor's degree in Education, Marketing, Communication or related field plus at least 2 years of related experience. - Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills, including public speaking skills. - Basic familiarity with presentation tools, word processing, spreadsheet and database software tools.
Department Required Skills: - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to plan and implement recruitment events in an organized and efficient manner; ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with college faculty, staff, administration, students, and members of the community and the public. - Leadership skills that foster an open environment for understanding and working with diverse student populations and colleagues. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - 1+ years of experience in higher education admissions and recruitment. - Master's degree in student development, education, higher education, counseling or a related field.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: - Travel is required for this position. Valid driver's license required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
