Senior Library Specialist (Interlibrary Loan)

Position Summary: This position works as a member of the University Library--Public Services team, whose function is to facilitate access to the librarya€™s resources and services. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage all aspects of the Interlibrary Loan service of the department. This includes hiring, training, supervising and evaluating ILL staff members, including student workers, in order to provide GSU Library borrowers with access to resources of external library collections and sharing GSU Library resources with external borrowers. The minimum hourly rate is $15.80.

Minimum Qualifications: 1. High school graduation or equivalent. (Please attach a copy of your high school diploma or equivalent and/or a copy of your college/university transcripts). 2. Any combination totaling 2 years (24 months) from the following categories: (a) work experience in a library or equivalent setting (b) college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table: a€¢ 30 semester hours equals six months a€¢ 60 semester hours or an Associatea€™s degree equals one year a€¢ 90 semester hours equals eighteen months a€¢ Bachelor Degree (120 semester hours) equals two years (24 months) a€¢ A Mastera€™s or higher degree equals four years (Note: Only a maximum of 4 years credit for college course work is available). 3. A total of 2 years (24 months) work experience in a library or equivalent setting performing progressively more responsible work consistent with the next lower level of this series. 4. Physical Demands a€¢ Reaches, grasps and grips items throughout the work day in the performance of job duties a€¢ Occasionally lifts and carries materials weighing thirty (30) pounds or more a€¢ Requires the ability to convey information through spoken and written English language communication a€¢ Ability to hear a normal speaking voice a€¢ Bends, lifts and kneels in retrieving/shelving/searching materials a€¢ Enters data on computer/typewriter for varied periods of time

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience working in an academic library providing public service, processing Interlibrary Loan materials in a consortia environment, and supervisory experience. Competencies a€¢ Exceptional oral and written communications skills a€¢ Commitment to public service a€¢ Strong supervisory skills a€¢ Comprehensive knowledge of library procedures and practices a€¢ Experience in the use of Interlibrary Loan functions on computerized library systems such as the Integrated Library Systems (Voyager), ILL software (OCLC, World share, DOCLINE), and ILDS. a€¢ Extensive knowledge of bibliographic searching tools a€¢ Expertise in Interlibrary Loan policies, procedures, and theories a€¢ Thorough understanding of delivery system regulations and policies with accent on staying current within the field a€¢ Proficiency with regard to copyright law and compliance a€¢ Outstanding organizational skills a€¢ Statistical compilation facility a€¢ Computer literacy a€¢ Ability to maintain a teamwork environment a€¢ Independent judgment and discretion are mandatory a€¢ Ability to prioritize a€¢ Must be able to supervise well and be able to deal with staff fairly and firmly. a€¢ Must be able to identify potential solutions to departmental issues. a€¢ Good interpersonal and communicative skills are essential.

Work Schedule: Full-time (7.5 hours per day for a total of 37.5 hours weekly. Days and hours: This position works Monday through Thursday between 8:00 am to 10 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 30-60 minute unpaid lunch. This position is part of the evening and weekend rotation.
