Scope of Job:
To receive and prioritize Emergency and non-emergency calls and telephone calls from the public. Enters information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, and processes non-emergency and routine request for police and security services. May provide alarm and security camera monitoring while performing multiple tasks concurrently in a fast paced environment while maintaining a professional and positive demeanor.

Description of Duties:
• Answers emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Uses a computer aided dispatch system to enter, research and retrieve information.
• Monitors alarms and security cameras.
• Reacts calmly, quickly and decisively in emergency situations to obtain, summarize and relay information both orally and in written form.
• Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple tasks, working under stressful conditions. Activations of emergency procedures for evacuations, timely warnings or similar emergencies.
• Compiles information from different sources to develop a daily briefing or a log which provides information to assist in the daily operations of the agency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:


Required Experience:
One (1) years of experience in customer service, call center or related field.

Applicant must be a current UTRGV Employee to be eligible for this position.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in a public safety or emergency communications field.

Applicant currently holds a comparable position at UTRGV.

Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Work in an enclosed, secured communications environment; some travel and weekend work is required. This position is a 24/7 position that requires shift coverage for day, evening and night shifts to include weekends and holidays. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Must demonstrate the ability to type on a keyboard. Spanish speaking preferred. Needs to be able to communicate orally in a clear and understandable fashion. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
