Posting Summary:
The Center for Applied Biomechanics at the University of Virginia is seeking a mechanical engineering technician to assist in the completion of impact biomechanics projects. Applicants should possess a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, and possess the interest and ability to work with human and other biological tissues in a multi-disciplinary laboratory environment. Applicants should be proficient in the design of test fixtures, with at least a basic understanding of machine design and machining techniques, and should possess experience in the operation and functionality of data acquisition systems. Preferred skills include hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, and a basic understanding of high-speed digital camera systems, 3-D coordinate measurement techniques and laser scanning systems. Preferred applicants would also have a demonstrated background in project management, including deadline and budget adherence, supervision of personnel, and both an ability and desire to work within the existing management and support structure of the group. Proficiency in SolidWorks and MatLab (or equivalents) is required.

The purpose of this position is to provide direct support throughout the test lifecycle including planning, budgeting, execution, and reporting. The mechanical engineering technician assists the project manager, PI, or research scientist with the design and manufacture of test fixtures, setting-up of the test environment including test data acquisition systems, running of the test, post-test clean-up, and the processing and interpretation of test data results.

This is a restricted position. It is a grant-funded term position with an anticipated end date of January 31, 2020.
