Director, Small Business Development Center
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Five to Seven years of related professional experience in business/economic development, finance, consulting, business management, banking, and grant management; evidence of strong organizational and communication skills. Familiarity with the Small Business Administration and Small Business Development Center procedures required. Bilingual capacity in Spanish preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office required. The SBDC Program utilizes an online database system that must be managed. Knowledge of requirements on State appropriations required. Travel within an eight county region and overnight travel to quarterly management and other meetings both in and out of state are required.
Preferred: Master’s in Business or Public Administration. Small Business Development Center management experience. Bilingual capacity in Spanish preferred.
Responsibilities: Responsible for overall management of the Big Bend Region Minority and Small Business Development Center, which includes planning, implementation, and administration. The director will oversee a program which provides business counseling and training to small businesses in eight counties of the Big Bend area. The director will manage the Rural Business Program office in Pecos, Texas. The director will manage the program in accordance with Grantee requirements from the SBA and the University of Texas at San Antonio Institute of Economic Development. Administrative responsibilities include hiring and managing staff, managing financial resources, evaluating and monitoring programmatic units, marketing the program, developing additional resources, developing consultation delivery systems, and advocating the cause of small businesses. Duties unique to the particular department and other duties as assigned.
