The Department of Pathology has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) IT Professional position.

The Department of Pathology at CU AMC has a proud and productive history, spanning over 130 years. The department includes nearly 100 full time faculty, 26 residents, 8 clinical fellows and hundreds of staff who work together to achieve the mission to discover, to define and to transform.

Job Summary:
This position works within the Department of Pathology Informatics Team to provide clinical desktop management support, maintain the stability of overall departmental network, computers, software, and related components with respect to clinical, technical, administrative clinical goals. Responsibilities of the position include clinical faculty and technical staff desktop support, user training, software and hardware upgrades and maintenance, disaster recovery, and data security. The position involves constant communication with faculty, residents, technicians, and clinical staff of the University of Colorado Denver campus and Children's Hospital Colorado. The Pathology IT Team is responsible for the 24/7 support of all departmental systems.

Examples of Work Performed:

Hardware Configuration and Maintenance:

  • Configure and install servers, computers, and hardware in clinical areas: physician practices, histology, cytology, autopsy, gross room, UCH CP, CHC and other clinical areas.
  • Install new, and update existing, computer hardware on a variety of clinical systems.
  • Support networked and local printers and copiers.

Server Management and Monitoring:
  • Provide testing of all server or network hardware prior to placing in operation.
  • Assist with configuring and maintaining departmental servers and computers through maintaining updates, and provisioning resources.
  • Assist with maintaining server technologies through installation, tuning, and patching.
  • Maintain backups of all specified resources and restore those resources as needed.
  • Participate in all hardware and software purchase decisions and recommend solutions.

Software Installation and Maintenances:
  • Research and recommend software purchase and upgrade decisions.
  • Evaluate, test, and install new applications as required for departmental purposes.
  • Work with vendors to install and update software, document procedures for users, resolve various issues, and recommend enhancements to improve system performance.
  • Order supplies, equipment, and software using with the permission of a supervisor.
  • Note: Software includes but is not limited to: Microsoft Windows (desktop and server), Microsoft SQL, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS, currently Cortex), Microsoft Office, and other related software.

Documentation and Accreditation:
  • Maintain departmental policies and procedures documentation related to networking, computer management, troubleshooting, testing, data entry, and user processes.
  • Assist with maintaining documentation for accreditation and clinical regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.).
  • Maintain up-to-date inventory of all hardware and software installations.
  • Work within project and strategic planning goals on all projects so that timeframes, costs, and resources can be tracked.
  • Perform quality control, validation, and testing for all clinical informatics activities.
  • Provide documentation of new user's orientation to network, applications, and security.

Help Desk and User Training:
  • Assist with the setup, troubleshooting, and quality control of clinical and technical conferences; includes teleconferences to and from remote sites.
  • Orient users, while obtaining proper documentation, to all electronic resources, including but not limited to: computer resources, VPN access, and security protocols
  • Provide end-user training as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide support for all users related to network issues, computer configuration, mobile devices, antivirus and security updates, and other related issues.

Training and Other Duties:
  • Complete all required training courses.
  • Assist the Arts Professional staff with preparation of posters and other clinical presentations and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience serving in an IT support role.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.

Conditions of Employment: Must be willing and able to...
  • Occasionally work additional hours beyond the normal 40 hour week.
  • Lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform physical activities including bending, stooping, pushing, standing and kneeling for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Basic, C#, HTML, XML, and other languages.
  • Experience working with Active Directory and databases.
  • Experience working in a medical setting.
