The Director/Senior Director of International Advancement will lead and coordinate advancement activities for the Urbana campus in Asia, including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Regional and Global Advancement and working closely with college-based chief advancement officers, major gift officers, department heads, and faculty, this position will assist the colleges and their departments in designing strategies to broaden and strengthen the university's international development, outreach and constituent relations activities, building upon existing relationships. The Director/Senior Director will be expected to be able to represent the message and vision of the University of Illinois, its colleges and departments to alumni and friends in Asia. While primarily focused on major gifts, the position may also support and coordinate international communications efforts, events, annual funds efforts and development of alumni clubs.
This position will also work with the University of Illinois Foundation and the University of Illinois Alumni Alliance to coordinate university-wide international engagement efforts.
This position will require substantial international travel of varying durations. The position will be based out of our regional advancement office in Chicago, or a location of mutual agreement based on the candidate's qualifications and ability to collaborate with individuals on the Urbana-Champaign campus.
If hired at the Senior Director level, may provide supervision to 1-2 staff members.
- Candidates must have an undergraduate degree, and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment and the ability to work with a diverse set of constituents in a cross-cultural setting
- For the title of Director, a minimum of five years of successful advancement experience or ten years of strongly related work experience (such as sales, marketing, communications, financial planning, etc.). For the title of Senior Director, a minimum of seven years of successful advancement experience
- Demonstrated ability to represent an organization in one-on-one visits with key constituents
- International travel experience to Asia
- Familiarity with Asian cultures
- Advanced degree
- Bilingual in one or more key Asian languages
- Successful history as a major gift fundraiser at an institution of higher education and/or understanding of international fundraising methods and culture.
- Familiarity and knowledge of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Experience working or living abroad
