The Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory is seeking a full-time scientist to study tokamak pedestal structure and stability on NSTX(-U) and other devices. This position is at the rank of Associate Research Physicist.
The successful applicant will work closely with theorists and experimentalists from NSTX-U and DIII-D to develop, validate, and apply models of tokamak pedestal structure and stability. This will include analysis of experimental data from discharges in which non-axisymmetric fields are applied to suppress edge-localized modes; and also understanding and modeling pedestal structure and evolution in spherical tori such as NSTX(-U) and MAST(-U). This position will be part of a PPPL-CCFE post-doc initiative, and while the position will be based at PPPL, the candidate would be expected to visit MAST-U periodically and work with their researchers in a coordinated fashion.
Applicant should have a Ph.D. in plasma physics or a closely related discipline and one or more years' experience in the areas of macroscopic stability and/or transport in the edge of magnetized fusion devices. Familiarity with tokamak equilibrium reconstruction techniques or codes for analyzing magnetohydrodynamic or gyrokinetic stability is desirable. English communication and writing skills are required and so is being able to work as a team.
