Department PPPL Theory
Category Research and Laboratory
Full-Time / Part-Time Full-Time
The Theory & Computation Department at the Princeton University Plasma Physics Laboratory is seeking a full-time scientist to participate in both the Macroscopic Equilibrium & Stability and Energetic Particle groups. This position is at the rank of Research Physicist.
The successful applicant will work closely with experimentalists from NSTX-U and will also have the opportunity to participate in one of two existing SciDAC Centers led from PPPL and Princeton University: the Center for Transient Tokamak Simulations (CTTS), and the Simulation Center for Runaway Electron Avoidance and Mitigation (SCREAM). The applicant will be expected to work with the M3D-C1 code in performing both code development and application.
Applicant should have a Ph.D. in plasma physics or a closely related discipline and one or more years' experience in the areas of macroscopic stability and/or energetic particles of magnetized fusion devices. Knowledge of the properties of and techniques for solving the 3D magnetohydrodynamic equations describing global stability properties of tokamak plasmas and plasma kinetic theory is highly desirable.
