The Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) currently invites applications for the position of Full Professor and Associate Dean of Research as part of the School’s efforts to further deepen its commitment to address significant social issues domestically and globally,

The full professor position includes a 50% appointment as associate dean of research offering the individual 50% time to engage in their grant-funded research or a combination of research and graduate (MSW and/or PhD) teaching. The position start date is July 1, 2019.

The candidate will join a School that has a strong commitment to expand and grow its research enterprise. The ideal candidate should therefore have a passion and vision for strengthening:

  • the ability of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students to carry out high impact social work and social welfare research,
  • research mentorship, collaboration, and teamwork within the School, and
  • interdisciplinary research partnerships with the other BU Schools (e.g., Public Health, Medicine, Education, Rehabilitation Sciences, Arts and Sciences) and institutions nationally and globally.

The candidate will join a dynamic school with an extensive research portfolio and supporting alumni. The School has surpassed its initial capital campaign goal of $20 million and now aims to reach $30 million. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean of Research will work closely with the directors of the Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health (CISWH) (http://www.bu.edu/ciswh/), an endowed research center, and the Center for Aging & Disability Education & Research (CADER) (http://www.bu.edu/cader/) to enhance the Centers capacity to promote social work leadership in health delivery and workforce development.

The BU School of Social Work is located in the heart of BU’s Charles River Campus and is ranked #10 among graduate schools of social work by U.S. News & World Report. With over 900 MSW and PhD students from across the U.S. and abroad, 35 full-time faculty and 60 half-time faculty and lecturers participating in the main campus, satellite, and online programs, the BU School of Social Work is a vibrant and diverse community. The School seeks an individual with:

  • a doctoral degree in social work or related field (e.g., sociology, psychology, public health, public policy),
  • a well-established research program aligned with the School’s mission of the promotion of social, economic and/or health equity,
  • experience in interdisciplinary collaborations,
  • a significant federal funding history (i.e., NIH, NIJ, DoD),
  • a strong record of scholarly publications, and
  • a national/international reputation as a thought leader in their field.
