Associate VC and Chief of Staff

The Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff (AVC/COS) is the chief staff officer of the Office of Research (OR) and as such is responsible for overall executive management of the full range of OR administrative operations. The AVC/COS works with the Vice Chancellor, faculty and staff Associate Vice Chancellors, and Directors to implement plans and programs to further the development of campus research programs. The position is responsible for coordinating overall OR operations and resources, overseeing an annual budget with over $150 million in total expenditures. Units reporting to the AVC/COS include the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Administrative Operations and Research Program Services, University Laboratory Animal Resources, Research Development, and Research Administration, including Sponsored Projects, Research Protections, and Electronic Research Administration. On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the AVC/COS develops campus research policies and OR initiatives and ensures maintenance of successful relationships with campus leadership and the academic units as well as external agencies and organizations. Works with Organized Research Units (ORUs) and Special Research Programs (SRPs) to implement administrative plans. The AVC/COS represents the Office of Research to UC and national research organizations and acts on behalf of the Vice Chancellor and in his or her absence.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Total Hours: 8-5, M-F
