Job Description Summary:
Southwestern Michigan College is seeking Peer/Student Writing Consultants on both Niles and Dowagiac campuses.

Tutors will assist patrons of The Learning Lab by providing them with on-site and in-class tutoring and educational assistance.

Required Qualifications:
-Students must have a 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing.

-A B+ or above grade is required for all courses that you tutor.

-Writing Center candidates must have successfully completed English 103 and 104.

-Accounting tutors must have completed Accounting 201.

-Excellent student/customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and faculty are required.

-You must also have the ability to work evenings and provide a flexible schedule of availability. All tutors must have access to reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates that can tutor a range of subjects, particularly Math and Writing.

Other Information:
Attendance at all training sessions is mandatory.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
You must be enrolled in at least 6 credits at the College with a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Contact hours will not be used to meet the 6 credit hour minimum.
OR
You must be enrolled or continuing your education with Ferris State University or Michigan State University on the campus of SMC and be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours and at least 1 credit hour with SMC.
