The Assistant Dean and Director of MBA Admissions and Financial Aid of the Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks a Director of Financial Aid. The Director will work closely with MBA, MSx, and PHD programs to develop financial aid guidelines and administers, assigns, and reconciles over $50 million in federal loans, private loans, and fellowship funding. The Director also develops and implements financial aid strategy, manages financial aid staff and delivers services to students. The Director facilitates discussions with university-wide stakeholders, including faculty, senior staff, students, and alumni to identify Financial Aid process needs and opportunities. In addition, this individual benchmarks financial aid processes at other university programs and assesses how government regulations which could impact financial aid fellowship strategy.

Your primary responsibilities include:


  • Manage the work of managers and other employees, processes, and projects, to implement the strategic goals of the unit, department, or school. Make hiring decisions, provide coaching and mentoring, and manage performance and staffing levels.
  • Identify, clarify, and resolve complex issues with university-wide scope and impact and substantial significance which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment.
  • Provide strategic direction for financial aid, including forecasting, planning, and managing program budgets.
  • Develop, analyze, measure effectiveness and oversee programs and tools for delivery of student services or programs.
  • Review exceptions to university, program or unit policies and procedures. Make recommendations that may guide the department's direction.
  • Manage the direction of internal administrative policy development for programs and operations and serve as senior advisor to dean on programmatic and policy development.
  • Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university, academic and administrative policies within an organization or program. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Direct process improvement for organization or program.
  • Oversee the GSB Loan Forgiveness Programs.
  • Counsel students on budgeting issues and financial obligations to the University and their lenders.
  • Manage the internal and external financial aid communications, including web content.
  • Lead university- or school-wide initiatives and campaigns; develop long range planning and policy development for a school or program.
  • Represent school/department programs and initiatives at senior-level meetings, conferences, and to both internal and external constituents.
  • Evaluate the technological needs and effectiveness of student programs and services, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Partner with Digital Services department and staff to develop new technological infrastructure to 73deliver enhanced student experience, operational efficiency, and analytics.
  • Identify, manage relationships, and negotiate with external and internal partners.






To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of projects, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.
  • Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
  • Strong analytical skills to review and assess complex financial information.
  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
  • Demonstrated success in managing people.
  • Understanding of underlying technological needs and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • User knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
In addition, preferred requirements include:
  • Advanced degree; MBA preferred.
  • Functional experience in financial services, operations, program management, or customer service desirable.
  • Industry experience in financial services, financial aid, or higher education beneficial.
  • Demonstrated evidence of managing and driving to completion large projects with high performance risk.
