Position Title: Associate University Counselor - Pos. # 10015788 (Req. # STA00)

Position Summary: Office of Legal Affairs. Under supervision of the Executive Counsel, the Associate University Attorney manages the provision of all legal services for the University to ensure maximum protection of its legal rights and to maintain its operations within the limits prescribed by law.

Essential Functions

  • Offers legal support on a comprehensive range of legal and associated issues involved in carrying out the mission of the institution, particularly sponsored research and regulatory compliance issues (i.e. Export Controls, IACUC, IRB,
  • Radiation Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, HIPAA, conflicts of interest, etc.).
  • Participates in efforts to streamline processes and training faculty on research-related topics, including regulatory compliance.
    Conducts research and provides analysis of legal, policy, and environmental issues.
  • Negotiates, drafts, and edits complex contracts.
  • Assists departments and administrators in negotiations.
  • Drafts policies, organizational by-laws, and similar documents.

    Minimum Requirements: Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws; three or more years of related work experience; active member of the Georgia Bar or the ability to obtain membership prior to employment; effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

    Salary Range: $60,180 - $75,224
