Clark University’s Hiatt Center for Urban Education seeks a skilled professional to join a community of people working at the cutting-edge of educational research and practice. We are looking for a team player with strong interpersonal skills with budget and accounting experience to serve as the Hiatt Center Grants Coordinator. The Grants Coordinator will assist the Hiatt Center Director and members of the center in center-related activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Center Director, prepare and maintain the Hiatt Center budget and multiple research grant budgets.  This includes purchasing, processing reimbursements through the university’s eProcurement system, supporting research expenditures of Hiatt Center members, processing grants-based hires, and coordinating sub-contract agreements with other institutions.   These responsibilities require interfacing with the university finance and accounting departments, the human resources department, and the university’s Office of Sponsored Programs and Research.
  • Support grant preparation and submission.  This includes working closely with Hiatt researchers to clarify proposal requirements, coordinating budget preparation and sub-contracts, and formatting grant proposals consistent with requirements from federal agencies and foundations such as NSF, NIH, and the Spencer Foundation. These responsibilities require developing knowledge of electronic submission protocols for these agencies and serving as the center’s liaison to the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research.
  • With members of the Hiatt Center, support community-based outreach for Hiatt Center research.  This includes communicating with local schools, booking venues, coordinating visitor travel, and updating the Hiatt Center website.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in an office setting, as well as experience developing and tracking budgets.
  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proof reading and editorial skills required. 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with various faculty, staff and students, and other community members.
  • Work independently and effectively manage time by prioritizing work in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion regarding budget information and center records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office.

This is a part-time, 15 or 20 hours per week, 12-month position with excellent benefits, which include: vacation, free use of campus fitness center and many more.
