Salary Range: $1,557.50 - $2,737.50
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $1,557.50

Note: This part-time(equivalent to 20 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to terminate on or before May 31, 2019. Extension of this assignment is contingent upon sufficient additional funding and satisfactory performance. Eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits plus paid vacation, sick leave, etc.


The Media, Communications and Journalism (MCJ) Media Operations Support Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day clerical, administrative and secretarial support functions of the department's various media organizations. This includes working closely with the MCJ Department Chair and faculty members to ensure that student media secures sufficient funding to provide learning opportunities for students in the department and in a number of other majors across campus. Students are involved in creation of editorial content, advertising sales and design, business and accounting, marketing and delivery. The Operations Support Coordinator understands and analyzes complex problems from a future-oriented and broad interactive perspective and readily develops proactive solutions that integrate strategic goals into tactical operations. The Operations Support Coordinator will make all efforts to ensure that all students involved with MCJ's media programs are provided the training opportunities needed to be successful in their various roles.

Position Summary:

&#9;Handlepurchasing functions including, but not limited to, invoices, estimates, requisitions, direct pays, capital purchases, contractor bids, coordinates student assistant travel transportation, accommodations and conference arrangements&#9;
  • Hireand payCollegian student assistants through PeopleSoft HR reports
  • &#9;Create, maintainand securestudent assistant personnel records, determines pay, posts and distributes a payroll schedule, directly supervisestudent assistants as needed, and provides job verifications&#9;Serveas a Satellite Cashier, overseethe collection of advertising fees and deposits, and collecton delinquent local and national advertiser accounts&#9;Maintainasset list that includes furniture, fixtures and equipment while overseeing and ensuring the general security of office space&#9;Assistin developing new publications and digital products&#9;Work in conjunction with Advertising &amp;amp; Public Relations Faculty Adviser (APA) to monitor goals and progress toward meeting those goals on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis&#9;Workin conjunction with APA and student managers to develop various products to ensure advertising revenue supports the news operations&#9;Assistand workalong with the distribution manager in creating outreach programs throughout the school year to promote the student media both on and off campus&#9;Provide guidance to the News Team withplanningand organizingnumerous programs annually to ensure that the student population is aware of the various student media offeringsincludingnewspaper distribution, campus fairs, and other promotional activities and products&#9;Utilize Social Media marketing&#9;Recruit, hireand trainthe delivery team&#9;Attend additional training and maintain skill currency as appropriate to effectively complete assignments&#9;Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assignedKnowledge, Skills &amp;amp; Abilities:

    &#9;Working knowledge of related university and college policies, and procedures&#9;Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation&#9;Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, databases, calendaring and email&#9;Skilled in planning, implementing, and managing multiple projects to meet deadlines with a finished and effective product&#9;Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills&#9;Strong organizational and people skills&#9;Demonstrated sound judgment, tact and willingness to take initiative&#9;Demonstrated ability to perform business math, analyze budgets and make accurate projections requiring some inference&#9;Knowledge of accepted bookkeeping practices&#9;Ability to:&#9;
      &#9;&#9;Analyze, interpret, compile, integrate and present data and recommendations to faculty and administration that is critical to the day-to-day operation of the programs&#9;&#9;Express ideas and concepts in one-on-one or small group situations&#9;&#9;Review operational and procedural problems and develop summaries and recommendations of proposed solutions&#9;&#9;Develop clear, concise and complete reports, records, correspondence and other written documents&#9;&#9;Understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of problems and solutions on other areas&#9;&#9;Initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside of the University&#9;&#9;Establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds&#9;&#9;Exhibit high standards of ethical conduct, confidentiality and professionalism in dealing with sensitive matters&#9;&#9;Effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive interpersonal situations&#9;&#9;Use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects&#9;
    &#9;&#9;A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluationsEducation and Experience:

    &#9;Equivalent to the completion of a high school program or technical/vocational program&#9;Four years of progressively responsible experience in an administrative assistant capacityPreferred Skills:

    &#9;Bachelor's degree with a major in marketing, journalism, accounting, business administration, finance, public administration or a closely related field&#9;One or more year of governmental or fund accounting experience&#9;Demonstrated skills and experience working with a media organization
