Associate Professor - Director of India Studies - (FAC000785)
The University of Houston seeks a mid-career scholar to serve as Director of India Studies. We are looking for a specialist in the study of India and its role in global political economy, geopolitics, and cultural change. This is a tenured position at the Associate level starting in August 2019. The India Studies Program is housed in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. The Director’s role will focus primarily on developing and fulfilling the mission of the interdisciplinary India Studies (I.S.) Program.
The program serves approximately 250 students each semester who pursue coursework in political science, sociology, anthropology, art history, language & literature, religious studies, cinema studies, yoga and wellness, and more. The program is served by an active, voluntary advisory board, which helps with fundraising for study abroad program and various cultural events.
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston is a recognized world leader in multicultural, multidisciplinary education. The I.S. Program has tremendous growth potential, and we are seeking a gifted and dedicated scholar to provide leadership to advance its mission. Preference will be given to candidates with a history of successful interdisciplinary collaboration and who would likely connect with other UH academic program units.
Directing the India Studies Program and advancing the program goals, including developing innovative collaborations within UH, and establishing an international reputation for excellence.
Conducting research that meaningfully contributes to the field and practice.
Securing external funding to further the mission of India Studies.
Teaching India studies undergraduate courses and developing future graduate courses.
Supervising student research.
Partnering with local, national, and international collaborators to further the goals of the India Studies Program.

An earned doctorate in a social science field, such as political science
