The Theatre Department at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applications for a tenure track position in Theatre for an Assistant Professor Film production to start Fall 2019. Responsibilities include teaching courses in our film video track, including but not limited to

• Film and Video Editing I

• Film and Video Editing II

• Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced Film and Video Production

• Creating new courses in post-production and sound.

• Other courses in film as assigned by the Department Chair and/or Dean of the College.

The successful candidate will be given the standard academic teaching load of 3/3 tenure track faculty. Assignment will be assigned by the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from an accredited institution with 3 years of teaching experience at the college/university level.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications: Applicants should have a strong background in editing software (e.g., Adobe Premier, After Effects, and Audition). Applicants should be well versed in all aspects of cinematography. Additional responsibilities include: Assisting students with all aspects of film projects. Maintaining office hours, student advising and recruitment, and participation in departmental committees. Opportunities exist to create and direct short films each year and in the summer.

Preferred Qualifications: MFA in Film Production from an accredited institution. 3 years teaching experience at the college/university level, professional experience in film industry. Experience in film sound recording and design. Professional credits and membership in professional organizations/unions preferable.

Additional Information: UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
