Position Description: The University of Northern Iowa's College of Humanities, Arts & Sciences- Department of Art is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor to teach three undergraduate courses per semester in Graphic Design from core skills to advanced subjects; teach courses in the departmental foundations sequence or general education program as needed. The successful candidate will establish and maintain an expanding record of professional, creative, and scholarly work; contribute to curricular development in the design area; provide service on department, college and university committees; and act as student advisor and supervise student lab monitors.

Education Requirements: M.F.A. in Graphic Design required.
Required Qualification: Required qualifications include focus in User Experience / Interaction design, and research-based design methodologies; University level teaching experience (graduate teaching experience may be considered); innovative portfolio of creative work demonstrating research-based design; publishing/exhibition record commensurate with experience; in-depth knowledge of design theory & methodology; strong typographic skills; competence in a variety of design applications.
Desirable Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with commitment to excellence in teaching in an undergraduate design curriculum with demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas of instruction: Experiential Design, Design for Screen, Interface design, Typography, Publication Design, Web Design, Application Design, Branding, Information Graphics, Motion Graphics. The successful candidate will be well organized and an excellent communicator able to articulate a vision for the integration of emerging technologies into the current design area curriculum. Knowledge of design history and its significance to current trends in practice is desirable.
