Posting Summary:
The Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Lab Technician 2 to work in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick Cottler. This position will be responsible for assisting in animal experiments, conducting cell and tissue culture, experimental molecular and genetic assays, conducting basic mechanical testing, assisting in maintaining lab inventory and ordering lab supplies, maintaining lab equipment, and assisting and some training of residents, medical students, and undergraduate students. Additionally, the incumbent will assist PI with manuscript and grant submissions as well as maintaining clinical databases.

The successful Candidate will be required to have an Associate's degree and at least 2 years of relevant lab experience which may include student experience or a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related science. At least one year of experience working in a laboratory setting is required, and experience gained during college may be substituted for work experience. Experience with Matlab, Minitab, Acrobat, Photoshop are preferred.

This position is restricted and dependent on the continuation of funding.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Must be familiar with animal surgery, cell culture, and have basic molecular and genetic assay and microscope skills.
2. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Knowledge of relevant University, state, and federal policies and regulations. Ability to conduct activities and make decisions according to ethical standards.
4. Knowledge of general lab procedures, basic safety precautions, and lab equipment.
