Posting Summary:
Professor Venkataraman Lakshmi in the Department of Engineering Systems and Environment at the University of Virginia is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate.

The research primarily will include working on a NASA grant that is focused on downscaling of coarse scale passive microwave soil moisture estimates from the SMAP (Soil Moisture Active and Passive) satellite sensor using the data from visible, near-infrared and thermal sensors and global model outputs. The work also involves validation of the downscaled high spatial resolution soil moisture estimates with other model outputs and in-situ soil moisture observation networks in United States and outside.

A PhD degree in Geological Sciences or a closely related field is required by the start date. Experience in use of satellite data, processing multiple model outputs and skills in the use of Matlab and R script is highly desirable. The candidate will also be required to present her/his work at national and international conferences as well as publish this work in high impact research journals.

This is a one-year appointment; however, appointment may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
