The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, academic year (9-month), tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. The expected start date is August 16, 2019.
We seek a historian who will add further breadth to a department with a strong, continuing commitment to the field of landscape history. The successful candidate will bring intellectual rigor and expertise to innovative research and teaching, with a commitment to building collaborative relationships across disciplinary boundaries. Possible areas of scholarly focus include, but are not limited to, design history, environmental history, urban history and theory, and media history.

Requirements for the position include a Ph.D. in Landscape Architecture or a related field (e.g., Art History; Environmental History/Studies; Human, Environmental, and/or Regional Geography) and an established record of research with the expectation of high achievement in scholarly research and peer-reviewed dissemination. The Ph.D. degree must be awarded by start date.
The ideal candidate will be well versed in current and emerging theories of historical research and have a working knowledge of contemporary landscape theories and practices across of range of disciplines and media.
Situated in the College of Fine and Applied Arts of a globally ranked, public research university, the Department of Landscape Architecture provides unparalleled opportunities for transdisciplinary research and collaboration to shape a more productive, equitable, and resilient world. The successful candidate will be expected to build an active program of scholarly research that connects with colleagues in the department and college and across campus and attracts support through internal and external funding. The department has a deep history of innovative teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to that priority through a lecture course for undergraduate- and graduate-level students addressing global landscape history and seminar courses related to individual interests and expertise. The lecture course will be adapted by the candidate for offering as a summer on-line course. The successful candidate will also participate in graduate student advising at the Ph.D. and master's levels.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
