Primary Function of Organization Unit: North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens. Stanly County covers 402 square miles of rolling hills in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and is home to more than 60,000 people. Albemarle, the largest city and county seat, is 42 miles northeast of Charlotte, 110 miles southwest of Raleigh, and about 70 miles south of Greensboro which places the county in what has become known as the central park region of North Carolina. Agriculture continues to be a major factor in the local economy with an estimated value of 1.6 billion dollars. Development is fast paced in western Stanly County with the opening of Interstate 485 just 11 miles from the county line and the expansion of NC 24/27 Highway from two lanes to four lanes from Charlotte to Albemarle. Essential Job Duties: The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of an effective educational program and informational assistance to meet the needs of the county youth and adult populations in the following areas of responsibility; Agriculture/Livestock, to include but not limited to swine, equine, cattle, goats and sheep. A successful Extension Agent must demonstrate an ability and enthusiasm for serving audiences of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Department Required Skills: A Bachelor's degree in animal science, animal production or a closely related agricultural field is required.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Cooperative Extension and/or relevant experience and a Master's degree are preferred. Knowledge and experience in communications, presentations, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development preferred
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License and reliable, personal transportation required. Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
