Job Information

Job Summary:

Monitors, operates and maintains direct digital controls associated with a computer networked building automation system (BAS). Performs work in accordance with University standards and procedures for University building and properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors, maintains and adjusts current building automation, lighting control and metering systems.
  • Handles emergency calls as directed during the day and after hours.
  • Installs, replaces or repairs electronic building automation controllers and associated devices.
  • Uses vender specific software tools to troubleshoot and diagnose system problems and perform preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Interprets building and machinery documentation to troubleshoot and make repairs.
  • Helps introduce new employees to shop protocol, procedures and campus applications and
    equipment.
  • Requisitions materials and supplies using in-house procedures as needed. Keeps working area safe and clean.
  • Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment.
  • Uses computers to enter and access job related information.
  • Undertakes training related to job duties as deemed necessary by the University.
  • Performs related job duties as may be assigned.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Completion of job related associate's degree preferred.
  • Formal training in building automation and control systems preferred.
  • Advanced training in controls and building automation system operation and repair preferred.


Experience:
  • Four years' experience installing or maintaining computerized building automation systems required.
  • Experience in building automation IT networking and architecture preferred.
  • Experience in industrial metering setup, calibration, and/or repair preferred.


License and Certifications:
  • Current valid driver's license, other licenses or certificates needed for this position as required by law required.


Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming logic such as, BACNet, Siemens P2, Johnson Controls N2, ladder logic or an equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings and sequence of operations required.
  • Demonstrated ability to write detailed reports and correspondence required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions relevant to the position required.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve mechanical, electrical and programming problems required.
  • Demonstrated ability to access computer programs and use or learn basic computer operations related to position requirements required.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions relevant to the position required.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve required.


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity and be physically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and move loads appropriate to job requirements and be able to bend and work in a kneeling position for periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, be capable of working at heights as required, be able to enter and work within tight spaces, and be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures.
