Clinical Trials Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff
Department: Pediatrics - 412001
Appointment Type: EHRA Non-Faculty Research
Vacancy ID: NF0003412
Position Summary: The UNC Department of Pediatrics is recruiting a Clinical Trials Director to enhance the Department's clinical trials portfolio and provide high-level direction of new and existing clinical trial research efforts. This position will work with current researchers in the Department and their existing sponsors to maintain long-term relationships as well as, most critically, forge new relationships with industry and NIH organizations with the intention of growing the clinical trials research performed within pediatrics related medical subspecialties at UNC. Current clinical trials performed within the department were limited and not managed centrally. The centralized approach, as designed by the new Chair, is dependent on this role. The new centralized clinical trials model will improve communication between researchers, allow for greater shared resource management, streamline proposal development, and demonstrate to funders the newly elevated importance of clinical trials research within the Department of Pediatrics. Responsibilities principally involve marketing and public relations with researcher sponsors of all types to add clinical trials projects, as well as the organization of core resources for clinical trials researchers working with children at UNC.
Application Deadline: 11/19/2018
Education Requirements: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher-level nursing degree is required.
Qualification and Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience managing clinical trials research is required. Knowledge and experience working in an academic medical institution and supervision of staff are also required. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences as well as build relationships with a variety of constituents (e.g., industry and government funding representatives, research PIs, study subjects, regulatory personnel, clinical and administrative staff). Candidate must demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple responsibilities effectively and exhibit proven management abilities with an understanding of the culture, policies, and procedures relevant to academic research programs. This position requires an individual with: 1. Significant knowledge and experience with academic research, including funding mechanisms and opportunities, identifying research study needs, proposal development, regulatory and IRB compliance policies, and methods of presentation of research results. 2. Familiarity with academic research structures and health care organizations. 3. Demonstrated relationship-building skills. 4. Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate complicated issues effectively. 5. Candidate must be able to work simultaneously on several activities and handle multiple demands with efficiency and professionalism.
