WRITER SCIENCE RESEARCH MAGAZINE, Marketing & Communications, Editorial

The science writer for Research Magazine, reporting to the Editor for Research, is responsible for assisting in identifying, researching, and promoting life sciences and engineering achievements at the University. The science writer assists with the everyday editorial workings of the Research website. Identifies research stories throughout BUs schools/colleges, lecture and journal articles for original story ideas or reposting. Will research and write articles on noteworthy research, and emerging trends in science and health to be published various communication channels including online and in internal publications.

B.S./B.A preferred or equivalent in related field. One to three years of relevant experience. A science background and Masters degree in science journalism or related field preferred, but not necessary. Experience writing science news. Familiarity with scientific/technical terms and the ability to comprehend research and academic writing and translate it in laymens terms for different audiences, including the media and the general public, depending on the distribution channel. Must have strong writing and reporting skills; an enthusiasm for telling stories about science; medicine and technology; and the ability to distill complicated science into engaging prose for a general audience.
