Executive Director of Marketing and Communications
Alfred University, in partnership with the national search firm of Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Marketing and Communication. The Executive Director reports directly to the President of the University and serves as the primary professional responsible for marketing and branding strategies and will serve as the chief public relations officer for the University.
The Executive Director provides leadership and oversight for the Department of Marketing and Communication. He/she will be responsible for the development and management of strategic communication, marketing and publicity efforts, including media expenditures, presentations, marketing materials, digital media, and all University media relations. The successful candidate will be dynamic, creative, inspiring, a self-starter, and an encouraging representative to all those who serve in any capacity at the University.
The Executive Director reports directly to the President and orchestrates a critical leadership role in support of the University’s new brand, initiatives to support enrollment and institutional advancement goals, while fostering increased awareness and communication among internal and external Alfred University constituents.
The University and the Alfred Community: Alfred University was founded in 1836 by liberal, independent thinkers who placed high value on education for all citizens. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, it is also the second oldest coeducational college in the United States. Qualifications: The preferred Executive Director candidate should have at least 7 years of relevant experience in communication and marketing within higher education, nonprofit, or a business environment. The candidate should also have demonstrated successful experience in leading and collaborating with a creative, self-motivated team, including but not limited to writers (news, publications, and online), web designers, graphic artists, photographers, and videographers.
A Master’s degree is preferred, Bachelor’s degree required in communication, journalism, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
