Four Faculty Positions at Evergreen

The Evergreen State College is recruiting for the following half-time, regular* faculty positions for our Evening Weekend Studies (EWS) program, starting in the 2019-20 academic year:

  • Business Economics & Entrepreneurship,
  • Education – Multicultural Education and English Language Learning,
  • Sociology,
  • Writing, Literature & Storytelling,

Experience working with diverse and underserved student populations, including returning adults, is highly desirable. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience or interest in using innovative pedagogy to engage students in developing their understanding of our contemporary social reality. First, the College seeks applications for a faculty position in Business, with a strong background in economics, entrepreneurship, management, and business development. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to placing business within a broad social and political context. A capacity and interest in teaching specific topics that illustrate the power of business to support community economic growth and/or social justice is highly desirable. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in such topics as international business, managing small to medium size enterprises, sustainable business practices, diversity and business, public policy and issues in community organizing; they will also demonstrate the ability to teach quantitative and qualitative methods.

Second, the Evergreen State College seeks an educator with expertise in teaching multicultural education, English language learning, and curriculum development. The person selected for this position must have experience and ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines and demonstrate an understanding of equity pedagogy in educational settings. The successful applicant will teach regularly in our EWS programs, and may occasionally teach in our day-time, interdisciplinary undergraduate program.

Third, we seek a broadly trained Sociologist to teach in interdisciplinary, team-taught programs. The successful candidate will have substantive knowledge of and experience with teaching cross-cultural approaches to sociology and quantitative methods. Preferred qualifications include experience teaching medical sociology, public health, and multicultural issues, such as language and society.

Lastly, Evergreen is recruiting for a faculty in writing, literature, and storytelling. The selected faculty member will be able to teach writing through multiple genres, as well as comparative approaches to literature and storytelling in an interdisciplinary context. Areas of expertise may include indigenous literature, languages, and/or cosmologies.

Evergreen faculty have a significant amount of direct contact with students and a commitment to teaching writing across the curriculum. Candidates who have a background and/or interest in interdisciplinary team teaching are encouraged to apply.
