Job Description

Under general supervision, this position provides senior level technical skills and expertise in Telecom Network Engineering as well as tactical/operational skills involved with the execution of efficient Telecom operations. The position will provide skill and expertise in the area of managing and maintaining telephony networks, installing and maintaining telephony applications, perform operational maintenance activities, capacity planning, monitoring, deployment of infrastructure, and ensure telephony availability. The Analyst will also provide guidance in the initial high-level design of multiple voice/data network technologies and will ensure that a reliable, scalable, and flexible enterprise voice/data solution is developed that will meet the complex needs of the university. The position works as part of a cross-functional team that deals with the full spectrum of infrastructure technology and will fulfill the role of third level support for telecom network technologies, providing training and direction to other technical staff that may perform the bulk of the first and second level support tasks.

This position typically works Monday-Friday; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. May work beyond normal office hours to include evenings, weekends, and peak times.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages and maintains telephony networks, installs and maintaining telephony applications, performs operational maintenance activities, capacity planning, monitoring, deployment of telephony infrastructure, and ensuring telephony availability.
  • Performs daily activities to include troubleshooting telephony incidents, telecom/data provisioning, performance tuning, deploying phone sets, maintaining telephony applications, scripting for the automation of tasks, assigns ports, error tracking, software configurations, production evaluations, and addressing interoperability issues.
  • Assists with the translation of business requirements into technical requirements, taking into account the existing infrastructure and the need to integrate new and existing technologies.
  • Develops a reliable, scalable, and flexible enterprise voice/data solution that meets the complex needs of the university.
  • Works as part of a cross-functional team that deals with the full spectrum of infrastructure technology. Fulfills the role of third level support for telecom network technologies. Provides training and direction to other technical staff that may perform the bulk of the first and second level support tasks.
  • Analyzes existing networks and equipment while identifying opportunities for improvements and efficiencies.
  • Leads in the administration & configuration of Cisco phone systems and video conference systems. Provides day to day support of Cisco's Telephony systems (CUCM, UC, etc). Provides day to day support for video conference systems including Cisco (Tandberg) and Polycom bridges and endpoints.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field and three years of IT related experience

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • -Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
