Boston University’s College of Fine Arts invites applications for the position of Professor and Director of the School of Music, with an anticipated state date of July 1, 2019.

CFA’s School of Music is a prominent beacon for the arts in New England. With 140 faculty (including 20+ current members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra), a sixteen-person professional administrative staff, 110 state-of-the-art practice rooms, and annual concerts at Boston’s Symphony Hall among other recognizable venues, CFA’s School of Music is a highly desired destination for a talented, global student body interested in pursuing music education certificates as well as BM, MA/MM, DMA, and PhD degrees.

The Director of the School of Music oversees the day-to-day administration of the School’s academic units and co-curricular activities (such as CFA’s nationally recognized Opera Institute); manages the School’s professional administrative staff; models professional ethics and best practices; and champions initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the arts.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, the Director of the School of Music collaborates with College leadership in the development and implementation of a forward-looking vision for both the School of Music and the College of Fine Arts.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrably active international profile in his or her professional or scholarly music field, as well as an earned terminal degree in that field. A minimum of five years’ arts administration experience, preferably at the university level, is expected.
