Position Description: The University of Northern Iowa's Graduate Program in Counseling is seeking a counselor educator to join our faculty as Assistant Professor, Counseling. The Counseling program is in the School of Applied Human Sciences (http://www.uni.edu/csbs/sahs) and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (http://www.uni.edu/csbs/). The graduate program has been CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling Related Educational Programs) accredited since 1990 and preparing counselors at UNI since 1953, and providing professional service and outreach activities. Appointment will commence August 2019.

The primary responsibilities of this position will include teaching, research, and service. This position serves graduate students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. The faculty member is expected to participate in curriculum development, CACREP accreditation process; scholarly research, faculty shared governance.

Education Requirements: Ph.D in Counselor Education/Counseling from CACREP- accredited program by the time of appointment in Fall of 2019.
Required Qualification: Required qualifications include post-master's experience in providing mental health counseling; eligibility for counseling licensure and/or certification as Mental Health Counselor; evidence of strong potential for excellence in college teaching and experience/or interest in teaching graduate level CACREP core courses; interest or experience in one or more of these areas: addictions, play therapy, school based mental health, neuro-counseling, and wellness; involvement in professional counseling associations at the state, regional, and national levels; and evidence of scholarship or potential for scholarship (as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, current research).
Desirable Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience in one or more of these areas: addictions, play therapy, non-traditional therapies, school based mental health or wellness; experience in clinical supervision of mental health counselors; experience using a variety of experiential teaching techniques and ability to engage students in the learning process; membership in American Counseling Association and its affiliated organizations, especially the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision; knowledgeable of and experience with CACREP-accreditation processes; interest for developing extramural funding for research projects; licensed as a clinical mental health counselor; able to function and communicate successfully and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
