The Program in Teacher Preparation is Princeton University's teaching certificate program that prepares undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni to qualify for the state teaching license.
Reporting to the director of Teacher Certification/Teacher Preparation, the Program Associate will work with students in Social Studies, including the supervision of clinical work in schools.
The Program Associate will also assist with teaching the program's interdisciplinary courses and help administer various program initiatives.
NOTE: This is a 50% time, 2 year term position.
The responsibilities of this position are classified in the following four areas: 1) teaching; 2) advising, 3) supervising student teachers, and 4) assisting in the administration of several program areas.
Teaching, Advising, Supervising responsibilities include:
- Supervise Social Studies student teachers in Practice Teaching (TPP 402) by meeting with cooperating teachers, observing lessons and debriefing with written feedback, reviewing lesson plans, responding to journals, and conducting interim and final evaluations.
- Advise students by meeting regularly through the academic year, monitoring their progress in fulfilling the requirements of the program, updating student records, assisting in the selection of cooperating teachers, and conducting portfolio reviews at the conclusion of student teaching.
- Serve as an instructor in program courses as needed for Student Learning and Methods for Teaching (TPP 301), The Seminar in Education (TPP 401), and other program courses.
- Assist with admissions process of students to the program and maintain student records and files. Ensure that students meet all program and state requirements.
- Develop and implement recruiting events for students in Social Studies.
- Serve as a liaison between the program and Social Studies faculty at the University and educators in local schools.
- Develop job placement workshops for students and support students in job searches.
Administration responsibilities include:
- Review dossiers for the Princeton University Distinguished Secondary Teaching Award and participate in the selection of finalists for the award.
- Participate in professional development activities as needed and as time allows, including attendance at seminars and conferences on topics relevant to the work associated with the position.
- Participate in all staff meetings and discussions.
- Participate and take an active role in all matters pertaining to program planning and review, national accreditation, planning and implementation of the program's special events (conferences, panels, alumni meetings, etc.), program events, and assist with other projects related to the mission and goals of the program as needed.
The person should have teaching experience in both higher education and K-12 public schools, a background in teaching Social Studies and experience in supervising or mentoring pre- or in-service teachers. A doctorate is preferred.
The person should have some experience with CAEP accreditation and data collection. The person should possess public school certification. The person should be familiar with current research in the field and have experience in conducting and presenting academic research. Familiarity with the edTPA performance assessment is preferred.
