Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. required in human neuroscience or a relevant discipline

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral experience in a research setting
Supervisory skills

Preferred Requirements:
5-10 years of post-doctoral experience in a research setting
Leadership experience in managing a research portfolio and in writing scientific grants and scientific publications
Research experience in contemplative neuroscience and related areas
PI experience with large scale grants and peer review
Human subjects research experience and associated regulatory issues
Experience in basic and applied/intervention research
Strong project and time management skills with the ability to manage competing requests
Ability to effectively communicate to both scientific and lay audiences and customize the information for specific outcomes
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with internal and external leaders
Excellent public speaking skills to audiences of varying size and differing scientific knowledge
Deep commitment to CHM mission

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Healthy Minds (CHM) was founded and is led by neuroscientist Richard J. Davidson. CHMs mission is to cultivate well-being and relieve suffering through a scientific understanding of the mind. CHM is a leader in rigorous, interdisciplinary basic and translational research aimed at understanding the mind and how to nurture well-being in ourselves and others. CHM communicates these findings to the world, inspires scientists to conduct further research, and engages influencers to shift the culture to embrace well-being.

The Scientific Director plays a critical role on the Senior Leadership Team at CHM. This Director works closely with the Founder to set strategy and scientific direction for the Center. The Director manages the execution of this strategy to ensure the Center achieves the goals of the strategic plan. The Director constantly refines their deep understanding of the field to ensure the Center remains at the forefront of science. The Director uses this deep understanding to mentor staff on the current science as well as on where the field is headed. The Director is intimately involved in ongoing analysis of a broad range of data including different modalities of neuroimaging, and other biological and behavioral data. The Director also plays a key role in scientific publication, envisioning publication strategy, parsing complex research into publishable units and ensuring the highest levels of scientific rigor.

The Director provides leadership and oversight of the Research Grant Portfolio of more than $6M per year.
This role leads our world-class group of scientists and researchers ensuring that high levels of rigor and integrity are achieved. The Director provides direct oversight to the post-docs and scientists in the Center.
