The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health is seeking a nurse practitioner with expertise in primary care and allergy immunotherapy. This is a full-time salaried position in our General Medicine clinic with an anticipated start date of January, 2019. The incumbent is expected to provide high quality, evidence-based primary health care to UVA students. In addition, the nurse practitioner provides clinical oversight for the Department's Allergy Clinic. Patient care activities may include supervision and instruction of UVA Health system trainees as they participate in clinical rotations in General Medicine. This includes one-on-one teaching, oversight of patient care, and providing feedback.
Candidates must have a Master's Degree in Advanced Practical Nursing and four years of experience, including outpatient, ambulatory health care and allergy immunotherapy. Requirements also include 1) Current Virginia Nurse Practitioner license; 2) Current Virginia Prescriptive authority; 3) Certification as a Family, Adult, or Pediatric nurse practitioner; and 4) DEA certificate. Excellent clinical and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge and skill in providing care for clinical issues commonly encountered in an outpatient, ambulatory health care setting and allergy immunotherapy is required. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with a wide variety of individuals and organizations. A working knowledge and familiarity with electronic medical records is a must.
Preference will be given to applicants with 4-7 years of experience and experience in college health and/or adolescent medicine and a Family Nurse Practitioner certification.
In accordance with University policy, this appointment is contingent upon successful completion of the required employment and criminal background checks, drug screening, application for membership to the Medical Staff of the Department of Student Health, as well as licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a member of the Medical Staff, professional conduct is expected in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, in addition to working collegially with staff and students and being a supportive member of group practice.
