Position Description

The Department of Political Science at the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in Urban Geography, to begin in August 2019. The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper level classes in geography and contribute to the Political Science department's Geography Minor ( and the Master of Public Administration program ( The position requires teaching GIS courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. At the graduate level, instruction will include at least one course in the urban certificate. A PhD in Geography or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Primary teaching and advising responsibilities will be in the undergraduate political science program (four courses per academic year), with additional responsibilities at the graduate level (two courses per academic year). The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and be involved in service.
The College of Charleston is a public, liberal arts and sciences institution with approximately 10,000 undergraduate students and 1,100 graduate students. The Political Science Department has 20 fulltime faculty, approximately 360 undergraduate majors (, and a Geography Minor. The department also supports a Master of Public Administration and Master of Science in Environmental Studies ( program. The College is located in historic downtown Charleston in a coastal metropolitan area of 750,000.
