Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Arts Administration

Job description

The University of Kentucky seeks a dynamic and passionate faculty member to join the Department of Arts Administration in the College of Fine Arts. The rank of the incoming faculty member is open and will be determined based on the candidate's background and experience.

The Department of Arts Administration is the first stand-alone department in the field in the United States. The department currently offers two degree programs: the BA in Arts Administration and the completely online MA in Arts Administration. The undergraduate program, founded in 1987, is the oldest BA in Arts Administration nationwide. Annually, there are approximately 130 students enrolled in the degree program. The graduate program, launched in 2013, was the first completely online MA in Arts Administration at a state institution. The MA is designed for working professionals and operates year-round. On average, the MA program has 65 enrolled students.

Currently, the department includes five full-time faculty and two full-time staff members including a dedicated instructional designer who works exclusively with the department's online offerings. Additionally, the department employs 12-15 part-time instructors annually. Due to expansion, the department will add additional full-time faculty in 2019-20. The department values innovation in pedagogical models; the advancement of research in the field of Arts Administration; and collaboration among faculty, students, staff, and community.

The faculty member will teach courses within the core curriculum, both face-to-face undergraduate and online graduate courses as assigned by the Chair, supervise and/or serve on graduate exams and project committees, and advise graduate students each semester as assigned. Pursing a research agenda in the Arts Administration field, the faculty member is required to continually practice, expand, test and/or disseminate his/her professional expertise through research related to arts administration. With responsibilities to service, the faculty member will serve on committees for the Department, College, and University, as requested; professional service to the field desirable; and assume other duties as assigned.

The criteria for evaluation, promotion, and tenure reviews are specifically defined in the Evidences for the Evaluation of Faculty in Cases of Promotion and Tenure https://www.uky.edu/universitysenate/college-fine-arts-rules and are based on those general guidelines that appear in the University of Kentucky Administrative Regulations https://www.uky.edu/regs/administrative-regulations-ar. Please refer to these documents for full details on promotion and tenure criteria.

Applicants should include the following:
• CV highlighting all teaching, research, and arts administration experience.
• Cover letter which identifies a minimum of three (3) courses from the undergraduate (https://finearts.uky.edu/arts-administration/arts-administration-ba-courses) and three (3) graduate courses curriculum (available at https://finearts.uky.edu/arts-administration/graduate-courses) which you would be qualified to teach.
• Statement of research agenda (upload under Specific Request #1)
• Teaching philosophy (upload under Specific Request #2)
Candidates who advance in the review process will be asked to provide references. No references will be contacted without permission of candidate.

Review of applicants will begin on December 1, 2018, and the position will remain open until filled. Interested applicants may contact Search Committee Chair Yuha Jung at [email protected] More information can be found at http://finearts.uky.edu
