Essential Job Duties: The Department of Health and Exercise Studies (HES) seeks applicants for a full-time non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer or Teaching Assistant Professor for the upcoming Fall 2019 semester. The successful candidate will possess strong teaching and evaluation skills with an interest in physical fitness. Primary responsibilities include teaching an estimated eight credit hours per semester with a focus on scuba, and health and fitness related classes. Additional responsibilities will include equipment planning and procurement for areas of expertise, in addition to departmental and university committee participation.
Minimum Education/Experience: Minimum of one year teaching experience as a scuba diver instructor. Active-status NAUI Instructor Certification required. Requires master's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience for Lecturer. Degree must be completed prior to August 2019. Requires doctor's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field, a terminal degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience for Teaching Assistant Professor. Degree must be completed prior to August 2019.
Department Required Skills: Minimum of one year teaching experience as a scuba diver instructor. Active-status NAUI Instructor Certification required. Candidates should have expertise in teaching various specialties such as: enriched air nitrox, advanced rescue, boat diving operations, cavern/cave, technical diving, and leadership.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Doctorate in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field, or equivalent degree or equivalent. PMA Certified Teacher (or equivalent) or RYT 200 (or above) certifications are preferred. Experience teaching at the college or university level is preferred.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required and must be maintained. Active-status NAUI Instructor Certification required.
