The Office of Student Financial Assistance and Employment Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the accounting and reconciliation of all federal, institutional endowed and current use, and state funds; this includes federal family educational loan and work study programs. The Senior Financial Analyst works to ensure accurate accounting of all federal, institutional endowed and current use, and state financial funds; tracking and reconciling any discrepancies on a monthly basis, and makes recommendations to upper management in implementing changes and/or enhancements in the audit process by applying principles of accounting to the following duties for the Gables, Law & Medical campuses. The Senior Financial Analyst is also the primary contact for internal and external auditors.
On a monthly basis, reconcile financial aid programs (Federal Direct Loans, Federal Work Study (FWS), Federal Pell Grant, all state programs, etc.) and endowed and current use fund accounts as well as private loan accounts to reports generated by federal/state agencies, Controller/Financial Planning & Analysis/Research Administration, and to University systems and reports. Submit prior year adjustments as necessary.
Thorough knowledge of federal and state agency accounts and full reconciliation of accounts receivable balances in the general ledger associated with federal and state agency accounts. This includes monthly communication with the Office of Financial Planning and Analysis on any discrepancies found between reports generated by federal and/or state agencies, Campus Solutions, and the general ledger.
Analyze and coordinate the distribution of a variety of financial aid data and relevant reports in a clear, concise and timely manner; routinely perform variance and historical analysis; create financial, transactional and ad-hoc reports as needed. Assist with the development of the annual financial aid budget and monthly and quarterly variance analysis, including the annual forecasts.
Audit and reconcile all major financial aid to general ledger accounts monthly.
Ensures compliance with relevant and applicable legislation, regulations, and guidelines relating to funds management.
Act as primary contact with external auditors and Controller’s Office staff members for annual A-133 federal financial aid audits. Also act as primary contact for internal and independent audits, other federal or state agency audits and program reviews. Prepare and/or coordinate required documentation as well as analysis of data.
Compile, review and audit weekly disbursement reports. Investigate and reconcile reports.
Reconcile, audit, and resolve any adjustments with regard to Title IV funds. Analyze, audit and generate reports for all weekly disbursements.
Complete reconciliation of the FWS accounts, monitor budget and coordinate posting of payroll. Monitor input documents for disbursement adjustments processed through the Accounts Receivable system. Process refunds to outside agencies.
Draw down funds and coordinate level of expenditures for federal and state accounts.
Act as lead in the preparation and submission of annual FISAP report.
Coordinate & monitor scheduling of various disbursement jobs for federal (Common Origination and Disbursement) and state electronic funds processes.
Submit annual Budget Prep information in Tidemark.
Submit quarterly variance reports including variance and projections.
Maintain procedures manual.
Perform other duties as assigned.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
• A Master’s Degree is preferred.
• A combination of a strong background with computer application systems and financial analytical skills are critical.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in a University setting.
• Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.
• Ability to work as a team or independently.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent business systems and organizational skills.
• Customer service experience and focus.
Knowledge and Skills:
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
