Stanford University is seeking a Digital Community & Social Media Specialist 3 to develop and implement initiative-level digital community strategy and content for PRIDEnet, The PRIDE Study, the All of Us Research Program, and additional research studies and programs.

The incumbent will support our “broad-reach” communications activities aimed at educating a general audience about our activities, driving traffic to the The PRIDE Study and All of Us Research Program websites, increasing The PRIDE Study enrollment numbers and retention rate, and disseminating the results of research throughout PRIDEnet. These activities include:
  • implementing and refining an overall communications plan
  • developing written recruitment and education documents
  • developing effective posts for social media
  • writing updates for the website
  • facilitating development of photo and video resources
  • coordinating the design and editing of other templates and assets

They will work closely with members of the team to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integration of key messages into all of our routine activities. These activities include, but are not limited to:
  • (co)authoring and editing email newsletters and social media channel content
  • tabling at community events
  • presenting at conferences
  • fundraising
The incumbent will work closely with the team to understand the goals of the project and the communication needs and preferences of the communities with whom we work. They will be familiar with research and appreciate its significance for LGBTQ physical, mental, and social health. In addition, they will work in conjunction with our PRIDEnet Participant Advisory Committee and community partners, when appropriate, to extend the reach and depth of communications activities via their knowledge, expertise, and networks.

This position requires excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills as well as some design skills and experience with social media, ideally in the context of health or health research. The successful candidate will be a valued member of a small team who is able to work independently, liaise with multiple funder and stakeholder groups, and work within a community collaborative context. The incumbent will be inspired by helping to improve the health of LGBTQ communities and by the value of community involvement at all stages of health research.

PRIDENET
PRIDEnet is a participant-powered research network of sexual and gender minorities (SGM) which include but are not limited to LGBTQ people. PRIDEnet's purpose is to provide SGM/LGBTQ health research participants broad access to engage with the research process from end to end. PRIDEnet is the primary vehicle for community engagement in The PRIDE Study (pridestudy.org), a national, online study of the general health of LGBTQ people. PRIDEnet also conducts LGBTQ community engagement for the All of Us Research Program (joinallofus.org/lgbt).

THE PRIDE STUDY
The PRIDE Study is a community-engaged, national, online, prospective, longitudinal general health cohort study of SGM adults. The PRIDE Study aims to improve SGM health through research, community engagement, education, and mentorship and envisions a world with optimal physical, mental, and social health for all SGM people. The PRIDE Study employs innovative technologies to bridge research gaps in the health of these medically underserved and vulnerable populations. For more informaiton, visit www.pridestudy.org.

ALL OF US RESEARCH PROGRAM
The mission of the All of Us Research Program is to accelerate health research and medical breakthroughs, enabling individualized prevention, treatment, and care for all of us. The program will partner with one million or more people across the United States to build the most diverse biomedical data resource of its kind, to help researchers gain better insights into the biological, environmental, and behavioral factors that influence health. Duties include:
  • Lead digital community-building through social media channels, blogs and the web.
  • Manage development and implementation of digital community strategy for a group, unit, project, program, initiative, channel, organization or unit; including how to engage customers and fundamentally impact their relationship with constituents.
  • Responsible for ownership and management of digital channels and/or the web.
  • Oversee editorial strategy and voice (of the content through the channels).
  • Partner with internal stakeholders such as program teams, service teams, IT, campus partners to achieve program goals and to ensure coordination.
  • Manage constituent complaints and reputational issues and other high priorities on digital channels.
  • May hire, coach and manage teams.
* - Other duties may also be assigned DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters or higher degree in communications, public health, digital media.
  • Experience with community-engaged research or collaboration.
  • Knowledge of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and other sexual and gender minority (SGM) communities.
  • Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in health sciences.
  • Basic knowledge of design software tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Interest in holistic community health.
  • Ability to work with sexual, gender, and racial minority and other marginalized populations and be empathetic.
  • Ability to work with people from different professional settings, including research and community advocacy.
  • Ability to work with monolingual Spanish-speaking and other non-English speaking communities.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated problem solver.
  • Ability to leverage current and future trends to help an organization succeed at the initiative level, for a specific group, team or unit.
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Experience leading highly-functioning teams.
