Summary

The Director of Curriculum Development and Faculty Resources works with the Dean and Associate Dean of Faculty & Instruction to manage the academic curriculum. This position supports and guides academic programs in regard to program review, academic assessments, development and documentation for curriculum revisions, and monitors the quality of faculty governance. The Associate Dean advises the program review processes and data interpretation. This position monitors quarterly course schedules in cooperation with Department Chairs and supports curricular projects and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as project manager of the Program Review processes, including creating timelines, training workshops and providing incremental support to both campuses; ensures program reviews adhere to college's program review cycle.
  • Ensures program review meets standards as outlined in institutional program review guide and meets WASC accreditation standards.
  • Develops and maintains the curriculum policies and curriculum approval process in conjunction with the Dean.
  • Manages development, creation and implementation of a Curriculum Development Manual.
  • Consults on curriculum development and structure as a result of the strategic plans that come out of the Program.
  • Review process at both campuses. Prioritizes program sustainability.
  • Serves as advisor to the Academic Curriculum Committees across both campuses.
  • Ensures quality of faculty governance by ensuring all committees meet on schedule and appropriate documentation is maintained.
  • Ensures communication & collaboration across campuses for related faculty committees.
  • Ensures faculty committee recommendations are communicated to leadership teams at both campuses.
  • Assists the Dean in drafting, implementing, and communicating academic policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains the Faculty Handbook in cooperation with Dean and Associate Dean, and human resources.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of a digital resource hub for faculty.
  • Oversees surveys for academic data relative to Institutional Effectiveness Reports related to academics at both campuses.
  • Provides Institutional Effectiveness Report coaching for the Academic Department as needed at both campuses and serves as point person for collection.
  • Monitors faculty course assignments to ensure appropriate credentialing in cooperation with the Dean and faculty managers at both campuses.
  • Assists the Dean in assembling, monitoring, and managing quarterly course schedules in order to maximize efficiency, meet S:I ratio goals, sections totals and remain within budget while maintaining educational outcomes and ensuring a student's timeline to graduation.
  • Liaison to student affairs for improvements to programs and curriculum (for example: developing diverse curriculum and events options, developing community outreach projects, developing strategic academic partnerships, etc.)
  • Collaborates with other departments such as Student Affairs, Admissions, Registrar, Advising, Outreach to integrate processes and meet the needs of the college.
  • Use CampusVue, our campus-wide information system, to manage student records, registration, degree audits, average registered credits, student-instructor ratios, and grades.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience PhD degree or terminal degree in field related to degree offerings at the college; minimum 5 years teaching experience in higher education at a regionally accredited institution; significant experience in relevant academic administrative experience in areas of scheduling, assessment, faculty development, program review, and curriculum design. Master's degree considered with additional work experience.

History
Columbia College Hollywood was originally established in the 1952 in the MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles as a branch campus of Columbia College in Chicago. The curriculum was designed to focus on the burgeoning television and radio industries and featured a faculty made up of working television and radio professionals. In 1959, Columbia College Hollywood separated from the Chicago institution to operate as an independent, private, nonprofit college.

During the 1960s, as the entertainment industry grew and changed, the college established a cinema department with a dual focus on film and television. To serve its expanding curricula and student population, the college moved to a new campus on Las Palmas Avenue in Hollywood in 1970. In 1997, Columbia College Hollywood established its current campus in the historic, former world headquarters of Panavision, a foremost designer and manufacturer of cameras and lenses for the film and television industries. The college is now located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, providing access to major film and television studios in Los Angeles.

In 2018, Columbia College Hollywood merged with Tribeca Flashpoint College in Chicago, Illinois. As a result, a wider range of programs and services are available to students at both locations and online. The campus in Illinois is now known as Flashpoint Chicago, a campus of Columbia College Hollywood.
