The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Trumpet faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2019. The faculty seek a highly motivated, engaged, and creative performer who will join colleagues at the Mead Witter School of Music who value collaboration, innovation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in their shared work of preparing student musicians for a variety of careers.
Successful candidates will demonstrate evidence of an emerging national/international performing career and have previous college-level teaching experience. The School welcomes applicants who may have other areas of expertise including, but not limited to, new music, electro-acoustic music, music business and entrepreneurship, early music, arranging, non-Western music, and jazz. Candidates will be expected to contribute vigorously to the School's educational, research and outreach missions; to recruit and teach a diverse student body of undergraduate and graduate students; to carry out creative scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track position; to perform in the School?s Wisconsin Brass Quartet; to advise and mentor students and serve on graduate degree committees; and to carry out leadership and service within the School, College, and University.
The candidate's principal responsibilities will be to:
- Teach the trumpet studio (undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, including Music Performance and Music Education majors), lead a weekly studio class, recruit students to maintain an appropriate studio size, teach the trumpet fundamentals class to Music Education students, coach chamber music;
- Rehearse and perform on and off campus with the School's Wisconsin Brass Quintet;
- Establish a national and international performing career through creative research activities;
- Contribute to the School's educational, research, and outreach/engagement missions; participate in graduate degree committees; collaborate in the ongoing work of Mead Witter School of Music, College of Letters & Science; and carry out leadership and service within the School, College and University.
The Mead Witter School of Music, located within the College of Letters & Science, serves over 300 majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels offering the B.A., B. S., B.M., M.A., M.M., D.M.A. and Ph.D. degrees and serves hundreds of non-majors through multiple ensembles and course offerings. Along with the UW-Madison at large, the School of Music is committed to creating a diverse, collegial and inclusive educational, scholarly and performance community of faculty, staff, and students and to embody through its teaching and research the aims of the Wisconsin Idea. The School seeks candidates who identify with groups currently underrepresented within Schools of Music and academe at large. April 2019, the Hamel Music Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed as a gateway for arts on campus, will open its doors to the campus and general public. This new space contains a large concert hall, a recital hall, lobby, and a large rehearsal space for use by students, faculty, and staff and will contribute to the School's on-going engagement with audiences on and off campus.
