DIR, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS-Academic Programs
- The Senior Director of Academic Programs and Registrar, Duke University Divinity School, will manage, coordinate, and implement all programs and services for the Office of Academic Programs.
- Develop and implement a robust student life experience, academic advising program, academic support program, and manage the day-to-day functions of the registry.
- Design and implement systems and assessment for the office to meet operations and external accreditation needs. Supervise staff who implement academic support/retention programs, student life programs, disability support and a staff assistant.
- Provide a high level of customer service to all constituents who depend on the services of the Academic Programs office, including but not limited to, students, staff, faculty, and external constituents.
- The Senior Director of Academic Programs and Registrar reports directly to the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs.
- Cover letters and resumes to be received by November 19.
- In collaboration with the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, the Senior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, and the Senior Director of Ministerial Formation, provide leadership for all aspects of student academics and student life.
- As Divinity Registrar, develop and implement vision and goals for Academic Programs that coordinates efforts involving student life, academic advising, academic support, retention, and operations.
- Liaise with the University Registrar's Office.
- Hire and supervise staff who manage student life programs; academic support/retention programs; and Disability Support Services. Coordinate with the Library and the Writing Center to develop a network of academic support resources.
- Work with the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs to develop the Academic Programs budget.
- Work with colleagues in Admissions and Financial Aid to ensure the accuracy of student bursar accounts, and with the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance to interpret tuition revenue and predict future tuition revenue.
- Collaborate with faculty to establish annual course offerings, ensure course offerings align with curricular needs, coordinate all operations related to registration, drop/add, special permissions, implement preceptor (teaching assistant) orientation and on-going training, and develop assignments and contracts for preceptors, research assistants, student workers, and adjunct faculty.
- Oversee and facilitate degree program assessment and develop co-curricular program assessments for each area within Academic Programs.
- Support directors of degree, certificate, and concentration programs for the tracking of students' achievement, and supervise the program coordinator who supports on-campus intensive residential sessions featured in hybrid degree programs (MACP and DMIN).
- Collaborate with leaders of co-curricular programs that feature international travel components, seeking greater coordination and integration with curriculum and academic programs.
- With the Vice Dean, support the coordination and communication between faculty directors in Houses of Study, Centers, and Initiatives at the Divinity School, seeking greater integration of each inside existing academic programs and curriculum. Create, maintain, and resource the academic sections of the Divinity website.
- Work with Communications staff to update and ensure the accuracy of the Divinity Bulletin.
- Registration Direct the creation and maintenance of the Divinity Courses of Instruction and Daily Academic Calendar.
- Consider student petitions and grant permissions for all areas of academic programs in consultation with established academic policies as stated in the Divinity Bulletin.
- Coordinate faculty, staff, and other resources serving international programs, including student exchanges and classes featuring international travel. Manage the Visa process for international students once enrolled.Supervise the Divinity School Liaison (Program Coordinator) for the Duke University Student Disability Access Office and ensure the Divinity School is in compliance with all areas related to the ADA and Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Ensure that the Divinity School is in compliance with the federal textbook law.
- Student support and retention responsibilities Develop, implement, and manage a network of support for students who are struggling.
- Liaise as needed with Duke resources outside of Duke Divinity School.
- Coordinate and manage the academic policies committee, developing follow-up plans for students at-risk of early departure.
- Supervise the Director of the Center for Writing and Academic Support to identify and reduce patterns of early departure.
- Serve on Divinity and other University Committees as assigned.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
- Education/Preferred: Excellent customer service skills through work in an institution of higher education is strongly desired.
- Understanding and experience in moving processes forward in a high volume environment.
- Knowledge of research and communications principles normally acquired through a Masters Degree (with some familiarity with liberal arts studies and/or religion).
- Applicants with academic advising, program administration in an educational setting, and knowledge of Christianity and theological studies preferred. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, prioritization and organization skills are required, as are attention to detail and high standard for accuracy. Position requires a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism and maturity.
