ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
The Department of Communication at the College of Charleston welcomes applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor to begin August 2019. PhD in Communication, Strategic Communication, or related field, a commitment to teaching in a student-centered liberal arts environment, and an active research agenda required.

We seek a colleague who is a teacher-scholar, dedicated to undergraduate and graduate education in communication. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a record of accomplishment in teaching and research in strategic communication. Experience teaching writing or experience in industry is preferred.

The successful candidate's primary teaching responsibilities will include the introductory strategic communication course, upper-level writing courses, and the two-semester Capstone course. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop junior and senior-level departmental courses specific to the area of expertise. Other duties include the continuation of research and professional development, advising, committee service, and involvement in activities sponsored by the department and the institution.

Candidates should be prepared to submit evidence of effective teaching and research to our online system, including a philosophy of teaching and research, up to three course syllabi, sample assignments, student evaluations and two samples of scholarly work.

The Department of Communication at the College of Charleston boasts a dynamic, integrated program with an accomplished faculty whose teaching and research are reflective of the diversity of our discipline. Special areas of strength for the department include strategic communication, public and visual culture, health communication, media, and political communication. Our department also hosts an advisory council comprised of some of the nation's most accomplished strategic communication professionals who regularly interact with students and faculty.

Undergraduate student majors and minors learn in one of the nation's most exciting, innovative, and personalized communication programs, with an entry-level year-long course sequence devoted to core communication competencies and a year-long Capstone experience devoted to the integration and synthesis of communication theory, research, and application. We aspire to help students become communication experts who write beautifully, speak eloquently, think critically, and research effectively.

The College of Charleston is the nation's 13th-oldest institution of higher learning and is located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina. This collegial department has 20 full-time faculty, approximately 550 undergraduate majors, and a master's program.
