The Network Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the state data, voice, video, and wireless networks. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and associated system software related to the ERP (Banner) system and other peripheral systems (Windows & Linux) supporting the administrative functions of the University.
- Provide technical support, assistance and information to DBAs, analysts, operations and management.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge of management and troubleshooting of a large data network or a large wireless network, network monitoring tools, and data, voice, video, and wireless networks.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing and provide assistance in resolving technical issues, read and comprehend technical documents to resolve problems, work with programming/scripting languages - bash, java, python, C or similar, analyze computer system problems or errors and devise corrective measures, and write moderately complex applications to fulfill requirements or select appropriate off-the-shelf software and modify to suit the agency or institution.

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Regular and reliable attendance
Experience working with Dell hardware, VMware, enterprise backup software, system security and monitoring, SANs and related technologies is desirable.
The formal education equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field
Two (2) years of experience in data network operations/design, or a related field.
Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or parts of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
