Assistant Professor of Communication - Graphic Design and Web Design
Valparaiso University is a selective, international university with a Lutheran ethos in Valparaiso, Indiana, an hour’s drive from Chicago. Founded in 1859, Valpo offers a thorough grounding in the liberal arts as well as professional training and graduate study, helping students find their own paths to lifelong personal, spiritual, and professional growth.
The Department of Communication, within the College of Arts & Sciences, currently serves 130 undergraduate and 40 graduate students. Degree offerings include: B.A. in Communication with concentrations in General Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, and M.S. in Digital Media or Sports Media. As the Department grows and the industry evolves, we have a greater need for faculty in digital and emergent-media production.
This tenure-track Assistant Professor position is housed in the Department of Communication but works closely with the Department of Art, as many courses are cross-listed between the departments. The Candidate we are seeking will teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and have expertise in graphic design and web design. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in these areas. Faculty are encouraged and expected to support the broader university and department goals, which may include teaching in a variety of graduate and undergraduate media courses.
- Experience teaching graphic design, web design, and/or visual communication is preferred.
- Must have an MFA or a Ph.D. (ABD applicants will be considered). Applicants holding or pursuing a Ph.D. must also hold a Masters of Design, Masters of Graphic Design, or similar degree at time of hire.
- Experience in program development is a plus.
