Management of Processing Unit: 50% Oversees and manages the daily operations of the payroll processing area. Responsible for the collection and editing of campus and Medical Center time/data transactions, gross-to-net payroll computation, generation of net payments, labor and benefit costing, deduction processing and monthly general ledger input. Responsible for the disbursement of payrolls of an estimated $54,000,000.00 for 13,000 campus employees and 4,000 medical center employees per month. Responsible for the implementation of negotiated settlements to employees resulting from UCOP collective bargaining agreements. Responsible for resolving employee payroll problems. Work directly with employees, departments, central offices, Office of the President and outside agencies for resolution. Responsible for providing interpretation to managers, supervisors, administrative staff, and employees of various UC polices dealing with Federal and State Labor Laws, etc. Provide interpretation and guidance on a continuous basis to ensure education, compliance and consistency with University and campus policies, procedures and contract obligations. Implements a wide range of new campus-wide projects/programs that require a specialized knowledge of the Payroll Personnel System, legal payroll requirements and system-wide policies and procedures. Review proposed new and/or changes to personnel policies, labor contracts, federal and state laws, and identify potential problems and solutions regarding these items. Responsible to research and analyze payroll data to respond to inquiries from Office of the President in regards to payroll payments for settlement agreements and other legal inquiries from Federal and State agencies. Manage UCI student FICA program in accordance with changing federal guidelines. Manage FICA and retirement corrections for staff and academics. Set up refund/deductions as determined. Responsible for efficient use of payroll division equipment and space. Payroll Functions: 30% Manages the upload of merit/range adjustments, seniority/severance pay computations, and service credit adjustments. Adjustments relating to cost transfers, overpayments calculations, collections and earnings adjustments, retroactive salary adjustments, final payments for separating employees, intercampus payments and accounting, and payroll-clearing account maintenance. Prior year corrections using COH (cancellation, overpayment, hand drawn) process and prepare W2c paperwork. The need for enhancements for processing local campus payroll payments,. Develop new processes to expedite payments to employees and outside agencies. Troubleshoot PPS errors in the department, and provide excellent customer service to find solutions to transactional errors. Audit all bi-weekly, supplemental, and monthly computes for overpayments, and or errors that could occur in the compute feed. Analyze and correct tax reporting data (ppp6010). Assist with all tax adjustments in PPS. Management: 10% Supervise three Administrative Analysts and student workers. Supervision of employees includes: recruitment, interviewing, candidate selection, training, performance evaluations, and recommendations of discipline and dismissal to the Manager. Helps to direct and advise staff on accounting matters. Special Projects, Other Duties as Assigned: 10% Assists in the implementation of various systems and process improvements. Examples of such projects include the installation and user documentation of releases sent by UCOP for update to the payroll system. Coordinate, organize and complete multiple projects with many interruptions, while meeting established payroll deadlines. Assist with a variety of special projects to improve and/or streamline unit operations.

The majority of our temporary positions are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., however, we also have occasional part-time, weekend and evening hours available. Comprehensive benefits options are also available for temporary employees, including paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave.

Salary: $31.40+ PER HOUR

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
